Question 1

Does my child need previous martial arts experience?

Accepted Answer

No. Our kids program is designed for beginners. Many students start with no prior training, and our instructors are experienced at helping new students feel comfortable from their very first class.

Question 2

What should my child wear to class?

Accepted Answer

Comfortable clothes they can move and train in, and a water bottle. No special uniform is needed to get started — we will guide you on what comes next once your child is settled in.

Question 3

How does belt advancement work?

Accepted Answer

Progress is earned through consistent training and demonstrated skill, not through a fixed schedule. Each student advances at their own pace, and there is no judgement for how long it takes.

Question 4

Are there belt or testing fees?

Accepted Answer

No. We never charge belt or testing fees. This is part of what makes Makoto different — progress is about training and development, not additional costs.

Question 5

Is the kids program appropriate for beginners?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The program meets children where they are, regardless of experience level. Instructors keep teaching simple and accessible so every child can build real skills step by step.

Question 6

How can we try a class?

Accepted Answer

Fill out the trial-class form on this page or call us. We will schedule a time for your child to come in, meet the instructors, and experience a class firsthand.
